Alan LaVallee
Alan J. LaVallee is a central-Maine native and second-generation professional photographer. He attended the Maine School of Art in Portland and is a graduate of the former Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute Graphic Arts curriculum in Auburn. For the past 37 years he has done extensive work as a freelance commercial, stock, and fine-art photographer.
Many of his photographs have been reproduced in Maine's numerous print publications. Until 2004 he worked as the chief color quality control technician and managed the digital photography studio for Graphic Color Service Inc., a pre-press service bureau now a division of J. S. McCarthy Printers in Augusta.
LaVallee's acute visual awareness of the natural world is represented in thousands of his photographs. Of his photography, LaVallee believes that his ability to notice and appreciate the beauty of simple subjects and scenes in everyday occurrences helps create photographs that are pleasing works of art.
He lives in Vienna, Maine, an area where he finds much od his best subject matter. He is also co-founder of Digital Image Works in Waterville, a digital fine art reproduction imaging service for both artists and the business community. He is an active supporter of local arts and artisans and helps promote creativity within others.
