A Month of Fun: Sunday, July 13
Down East Editors' picks for fun ways to celebrate every day this month.
Take in the Blues, Rockland
Quaint coastal Maine might not be the most likely place to find a bunch of rockin’ blues musicians, but on this weekend you need go no farther than the midcoast city of Rockland for some great music. If you can make it to the second day of this weekend-long affair (which might be hard to do if you join in the Club Crawl, the Main Street block party that spills into Rockland’s nightclubs until all hours the night before), get ready for some great artists like headliner Elvin Bishop, Chick Rodgers, Wayne Baker Brooks, Janiva Magness, and Rod Piazza. The annual event, which takes place on a big stage in Harbor Park behind the Time Out Pub, began in its current incarnation in 1994 and now draws more than 15,000 people. Look for some good food, a beer tent, and lots of dancing. You might want to bring your own chair if you’re planning on making a day out of it, but leave the pets and the coolers at home as they are not allowed. 207-596-6055. www.northatlanticbluesfestival.com
