Train to Maine

Boothbay Railway Village

Justin Reed

Maine has a surprising number of trains that still run, and this past summer Rebecca Harrison Reed and Jamie Spencer, illustrator and author of the new children’s book, The Train to Maine, spent time on four of them, talking about and reading from their book and entertaining children with games. Below are snapshots from their trips: aboard the Amtrak Downeaster from Boston to Old Orchard Beach, where they held another book signing; on the narrow-gauge train at the Wiscasset, Waterville, and Farmington Railway Museum in Alna; aboard a narrow-gauge train at the Boothbay Railway Village; and on the restored vintage cars of the Maine Eastern Railroad, from Bath to Rockland.
