Not much is currently available in print if you want to knit traditional-style Guernsey, Jersey, and Filey fishermen’s sweaters -- or to adapt the attractive textural motifs from those traditions to other knitting projects. You might already be familiar with Aran-type sweaters; here is an opportunity to learn more about these other fishermen-type knits. The Guernseys and Jerseys are knit on finer needles than Aran sweaters are. While they feature cables and diagonals and many other textural motifs, just as in an Aran pattern, the knitted fabric is lighter and more refined. The result is a sweater that you can either “dress up” or wear with your favorite old pair of jeans.
This book teaches you the traditional method of fishermen sweater construction, where the body of the sweater is knit in the round, with no sewn seams at all. Sabine Domnick demystifies this circular-knitting technique. The book also includes patterns for complete sweaters, plus many additional swatches of other textural patterns that you can draw upon when creating your own customized sweaters and other garments.
