At Its Best:

Living Dead

Living Dead

Media Mutt is Maine's Media Watchdog

Close readers of the Sunday funnies (by which I mean people with too much time on their hands) may have noticed a local in-joke in the April 20 edition of “Non Sequitur” by Maine resident Wiley Miller. Miller drew a series of panels showing one of his characters, Joe, reading a newspaper called the “Sunday Telegram” with a headline that said, “Corey Pandolph Found Dead At Gritty’s.”

Pandolph – a Portland cartoonist whose work includes the comic strips “Elderberries” , “Barkeater Lake” and “Toby, Robot Satan” (gocomics.com/toby), as well as work for Mad magazine, The Bollard and other publications – insisted in an e-mail that, while he does spend a considerable amount of time at Gritty McDuff’s pub in Portland’s Old Port, he has never died there. If he appeared comatose on occasion, he said it’s merely because he was absorbing material for use in his various projects.

In the interest of full disclosure, Pandolph is a friend of mine and the illustrator of the Media Mutt logo.
