Martha Stewart: Conservation and 'Saving Maine' to Air November 18 on The Martha Stewart Show
Martha Stewart Promotes Maine Conservation
Down East is thrilled to report that Martha Stewart chose to showcase the Down East book, "Saving Maine: An Album of Conservation Success Stories," on the November 18, 2008 episode of The Martha Stewart Show.
Saving Maine is available here.
According to the television program’s producer, Elie Haller, Maine-loving Stewart learned about the book when she took a walk on Mount Desert Island with David MacDonald, director of Land Protection for the Maine Coast Heritage Trust. Rich Knox, communications director for the Trust, thought it would be fitting to present Stewart with a signed copy of "Saving Maine," to thank the doyenne of daytime television for her attention to the cause of conservation in our state.
According to Haller, Stewart fell in love with the book and decided to point it out to viewers, many of whom cannot visit Mt. Desert Islands themselves. In fact, thanks to a generous donation from Down East Books, every member of Martha’s November 18 studio audience is presented with a free copy of the book.
Photographed by the late Bill Silliker, Jr., "Saving Maine" is a lavishly illustrated volume that zooms in on many of Maine’s most stunning protected landscapes. Here Silliker not only shares memorable images of Acadia, the Big Reed Forest Reserve, the Cutler coast, and more, but he also tells how people from very different backgrounds have all contributed to saving the best of Maine.
