Three years ago, the holidays loomed darkly over the Bethlehem Center of Spartanburg, South Carolina. The nonprofit agency serving needy families was down to its last twenty dollars. Scouring the Internet for fundraising strategies, executive director Paula Wiggs discovered Designs by Lucinda, the vision of South Portland native Lucinda Yates.
Born of Yates' own struggle with poverty and homelessness, Designs by Lucinda makes whimsical, one-of-a-kind pins to be sold for the benefit of charities.
