Listed below -- alphabetically by town -- are thumbnail sketches of congregate retirement communities that offer independent-living or assisted-living apartments and at least one meal a day. Details are accurate as of February 2006. Several places are undergoing expansions or renovations, adding units and amenities. A few have continuing-care facilities either adjoining or nearby. Each has unique amenities such as Jacuzzis or on-site banks that are not indicated on this chart; some amenities are available for an extra charge.
