Amato's in Portland hopes to bring Italians and whoopie pies to the masses.
Jeff Perkins is busy spreading the sandwich-pizza-pasta gospel of Amato's, and he's racking up the miles to prove it. "I'm on the road four days out of seven this week, and it'll be at least three next week," he says, momentarily at rest in his office in the company's Portland headquarters. He's just back from a franchising trade show in Boston, and he's preparing for a regional convenience store show the following week.
