Camden's Best-Kept Secret

Hidden away off Route 1, Merryspring Nature Park is more than just a community garden ? it?s a community triumph.

Camden has a secret. When most people think of the town, the images that spring to mind are the graceful old houses, the quaint shops along Elm and Main streets, and the magnificent sailing ships bobbing in the cozy harbor. Less than a mile south of Camden's bustling downtown, though, lies a sixty-six-acre nature preserve little known even to some local residents.

Merryspring Nature Park, a nonprofit oasis now in its thirty-first year, is located just off busy Route 1, tucked behind a shopping plaza with a supermarket, video store, and banks.
