Marriage Vote Won't Affect Turnout in Nov.
Submitted by Mike Tipping on Wed, 02/01/2012 - 10:37am.With the announcement that the campaign for equal marriage in Maine has gathered enough signatures to put a question on marriage back on the ballot this November, and the announcement yesterday that the clean energy initiative has failed to qualify for 2012, we now have a better idea of how the ballot will look for the general election this year.
Twitter Worm Hits #mepolitics
Submitted by Mike Tipping on Wed, 01/18/2012 - 6:00am.A malicious piece of software has infected a number of Twitter profiles of political players and journalists in Maine.
The worm operates by infecting one account, then sending direct messages to others who are following that profile. If a user clicks on the link in the message, they're taken to a page on the domain "tivvitter.com" (with two "v"s replacing the usual "w" in the name) and asked to log in to their account.

Submitted by Mike Tipping on Tue, 01/03/2012 - 1:38pm.Leif Parsell, the State House reporter for the conservative Maine Heritage Policy Center's new Website, The Maine Wire, has apparently left a long online trail of statements advocating for the superiority of people of "European descent" and against diversity, immigration and the intermingling of people of different races.
MacDonald Wins, Vows Revenge
Submitted by Mike Tipping on Wed, 12/14/2011 - 7:21am.A follow-up to yesterday's post on the Lewiston mayoral race:
Bob MacDonald won the runoff election to become mayor of Lewiston last night, defeating his recently deceased opponent, Mark Paradis, by just 70 votes.
Rather than revelling in his victory, MacDonald took the opportunity to vow to exact an unknown revenge on an unnamed group of people in Paradis' camp who he says smeared him during the campaign.
An Unusual Election in Lewiston, Maine
Submitted by Mike Tipping on Tue, 12/13/2011 - 10:38am.Despite the death of candidate Mark Paradis of cancer last week, the mayoral runoff election in Lewiston between him and Robert MacDonald will still be held today. If MacDonald wins, he will become mayor, but if the voters select the deceased Paradis, a new election will be held.
Collins Proposes Tax Cut Compromise
Submitted by Mike Tipping on Thu, 12/08/2011 - 7:00am.For the last few years, Maine Senators Snowe and Collins have taken fewer stands outside the mainstream of their party, even as the national GOP has been pulled to the right. Snowe especially has taken a rightward tack as she faces a Tea Party primary challenge (albeit one that seems less electorally dangerous as time goes by).
November 2011 Election Prediction Pool Results
Submitted by Mike Tipping on Mon, 11/28/2011 - 8:22am.Even in an off-off-year election, a high turnout of 42 entrants participated in the the 2011 election prediction pool. The prizes this year are a book by Allen Raymond and a Down East calendar, which will go to the top two overall winners.
As always, winners are determined by comparing their percentage predictions for each candidate (or, in the case of this election, referendum side) with the actual results, dividing by two for each race, and then totaling the results.
First, let's take a look at the individual results.
