FLYING HIGH (AND FAST)
It’s a bird, it’s a plane . . . well, yes. It actually is. But not just any plane. It’s an F18. The navy’s precision flight demonstration team, the Blue Angels, has been performing tricks and providing plenty of thrills for neck-arching fans (437 million of them to be precise) since 1946. Don’t miss them and more than a dozen military and civilian aerial acts plus ground displays. Sept. 6 & 7, gates open at 8 a.m. Free. Naval Air Station, Brunswick. 866-615-9204. www.greaterstateofmaineairshow.com

SINGING IN THE “SUNSHINE”
The actual performance is indoors, but the legendary folk-rocker Jonathan Edwards will light up the stage when he performs “Sunshine.” His million-selling song brought him instant fame in 1971, and since then he’s been touring and has produced more than fifteen albums. Sept. 13 at 7:30 & 9:30 p.m. $18-$22. The Chocolate Church Arts Center, 798 Washington St., Bath. 207-442-8455. www.chocolatechurch.com

THE MAINE MUSE
Maine native William Manning has produced some of the most abstract representations of our state, drawing from the styles of cubism and abstract expressionism. See for yourself at the University of New England Art Gallery where William Manning: From Here to Eternitime, an exhibit that is deeply evocative of his Maine roots and in particular his love of Monhegan, is on display through Sept. 7. Free. University of New England Art Gallery, 716 Stevens Ave., Portland. 207-221-4499. www.une.edu/artgallery
