The homemade bread is baked by South Portland’s own Doug’s House of Toast bakery. From plain white to cinnamon-raisin swirl to cheddar cheese and chive, this toast is no ordinary slab of bread. It’s thick, and lightly toasted, and, well, just plain perfect. It is so good that the coffee shop, which has lived at various locations on Free Street for more than a dozen years, used to run out by mid-morning until it upped supply recently to meet the demand. Whether you go for just butter, strawberry jam, or peanut butter accompaniment, an order of this toast will set you back less than three dollars and will start your day off with a nice slice of perfection.
