Dachshunds on Parade: 10th annual Maine Wienerfest
Starts: Sep 8 2013 - 11:00am
Ends: Sep 8 2013 - 3:00pm
Belfast, ME 04915
Maine Wienerfest celebrates its 10th year and all things Dachshund in Belfast on Sunday, September 8th in Steamboat Landing Park (at Front Street and Commercial Streets). Belfast’s quirkiest event of the year opens its gates at 11am, and will charge $2 per person, a fundraiser for repair and maintenance at The Belfast Dog Park. Children under 10 years old and dogs are free!
“Everyone, not only dachshund owners, will enjoy this day,” organizer Dale Kuhnert speculates, “It will make you happy to see so many smiling people and dogs. You will definitely see things you’ve never seen before!”
The festival, hosted by Friends of Belfast Parks, drew over 300 Dachshunds and their people to the waterfront park last year for a day of visiting and fun.
2013 Festival Schedule:
11am: Gates open. Enjoy food, craft and service vendors, meet the dogs, and take in the amazing view of Belfast Harbor. Dogs can enjoy “bobbing for wieners”.
12 Noon: Dachshund parade. Parade circles the park with Diane Mendes-Wood, the original founder of Wienerfest, returning as Grand-Marshall.
12:45pm: Judged costume contest. Past costumes have included homemade and store-bought bumblebees, dragonflies, hotdogs, lobsters, skunks and even an aviator in a biplane! Last year’s winner was Wienex- a box of Kleenex from Bangor.
1:30pm: The Long Dog Races. Dachshund races culminating in an exciting championship round.
