Centre Street Congregational Church, UCC, rolls out the blue carpet to celebrate its famous local crop, the wild blueberry. You'll find crafts, food, entertainment, contests, and all things blueberry.
Each year the festival features a musical comedy in the church sanctuary. Members from the church and community come together to create the script, choreography, music, lyrics, stage sets and props, and costumes. This year's musical: "East Side Story," written and directed by part-time Machias Assessor Doug Guy with music direction by Chris Guy,  choreography by Karen Varian and pianist Lee McBride. performances, scheduled for Monday-Saturday, August 13-18, usually sell out. Tickets will go on sale in May. Call (207) 255-6665 to order yours. Tickets are $13 for adults and $5 for children Wednesday through Saturday night, August 15-18. Ticket also are sold for the open dress rehearsals without the band on Monday and Tuesday night, August 13-14. These shows start at 6:30 p.m., and tickets are $5.
The Beehive Design Collective hosts the Blackfly Ball, a dress-up dance party for all ages on Saturday, August 18, beginning at 6 p.m. Twirl the night away in and around the Machais Valley Grange Hall 360, 1 Elm Street, near the raging Bad Little Falls. Brass bands, wacky ukuleles, and rollicking marching bands provide the tunes. The Blackfly Ball was named Most Enchanted Evening in Down East magazine's Best of Maine issue, July 2012!
