In 1997, Christopher Plummer opened Barrymore at Broadway’s Music Box Theatre. His performance had audiences standing in amazement and showering him with Bravo’s. It sent critics searching for superlatives. That year Christopher Plummer won The Tony Award, The Drama Desk Award and the Outer Critics’ Circle Award. Plummer defined “tour de Force” and “clean sweep.” Barrymore, written by the distinguished, award-winning playwright, William Luce, is based on the life of actor John Barrymore. Barrymore was directed by three-time Tony Award winner, Gene Saks. The sets and costumes were created by Santo Loquasto and the lighting designer was Natasha Katz. It seemed to be a once-in-a-lifetime collaboration
