Country Concert Clash
Country superstar Toby Keith, whose latest album to climb music charts is That Don't Make Me a Bad Guy, may perform in Maine this July. The Cumberland Farmer's Club, which organizes the yearly Cumberland County Fair, has proposed Keith's performance take place at the fairgrounds on Blanchard Road. The only thing standing between him and fans is the Cumberland Town Council and the councilors who must issue a permit for the concert. At first glance, the prospect of drawing tens of thousands of spectators may sound like music to any retailer's ears, but not everyone in Cumberland is upbeat about Keith. Cumberland Town Manager Bill Shane expects opponents of the concert, including fairground neighbors, to appear at the April 27th town council meeting and voice opposition. Shane also predicts that if the concert is approved, it will be contingent on time, traffic, and attendance restrictions.
