Another Hurricane Season Begins
It's one of those good news/bad news times for Maine mariners: late August means we still have some hot days left where a trip on the bay provides just the right cool-down, but it also means time for us to watch the path of hurricanes and tropical storms forming near the Caribbean. The first hurricane of the year, Bill, is currently bearing down on Bermuda, and some models show that it could bring some weather to Maine and the rest of New England. (Other models, though, show it veering east, away from New England, before it impacts our weather.) Maine has been lucky to avoid a major hurricane for many years, but nonetheless keeping an eye on the weather -- even if that weather is closer to Puerto Rico than Portsmouth -- is part of boating in Maine.
