Happy 50th, NRCM
Toxics Use Reduction, No Way Big A, The North Woods, Edwards Dam…. when it comes to working to preserve Maine’s environment, the Natural Resources Council of Maine has covered all the bases for 50 years and its list of accomplishments is miles long. The state’s first and largest environmental advocacy organization celebrates a milestone today and for that we should all be grateful. To know the nonprofit's work is to know some of the greatest environmental and health-related success stories of Maine — and the nation. From working to expand the bottle redemption law to include all beverage containers, to banning the use of DDT in Maine forests, to protecting clam flats to advocating for the first compact fluorescent recycling law in the nation, NRCM’s work has benefited, we daresay, every Mainer. Far more than congratulations today, the Natural Resources Council of Maine — and its staff and board, past and present— deserves a giant “Thank You.”
