Outside Magazine Loves Portland

Outside Magazine has ranked Portland one of America's top 25 "dream towns," for its small time charm and big city opportunities. "But what we really love," the magazine notes on its Web site, is the uniquely Maine mix of generational fishermen and young professionals, the latter lured here by the relatively low cost of living and (for Maine, at least) a diverse economy that includes everything from major financial and insurance corporations to media companies like our partner Outside TV. The cobblestones of Old Port are quaint but not too cute, the working harbor is gritty yet still gorgeous, and the seafood is always fresh."

Sounds like our Portland, with one exception. Outside reports Portland's population as 516,826. In fact, Portland is home to 64,000 residents, and 230,000 live in the Greater Portland area, according to the City of Portland's Web site.
