Calais LNG Project Shelved
The company that had hoped to build a liquified natural gas terminal near Calais has called a halt to the project.
Calais LNG has withdrawn its application for state environmental permits, citing the economy. In a letter to the Maine Board of Environmental Protection, however, company officials suggested the project has merely been postponed. "We are very optimistic that we will be able to satisfy the requirements necessary for permitting in the near future, at which time Calais LNG fully intends to re-file its applications," the letter said.
