Turning Oil Tanks into Art
It will be another abstract design for the second of eight Sprague Energy oil tanks to be painted as part of a $1.2 million public art project. London-based artist Jaimie Gili saw his first design, from the air while flying into Portland last night. "When you get up close, it's awesome," Gili told the Portland Press Herald of his first glimpse of the completed painting.
Located on the South Portland side of the Veterans Memorial Bridge, itself the subject of a design initiative, the Sprague tank farm art project is being spearheaded by the Maine Center for Creativity.
