Marine Highway Links New England Ports
Almost a century after freight moved from coastal schooners and steamers onto the highways, a pilot project is attempting to prove the value in transporting goods by sea once again. American Feeder Lines is starting the service on Friday, using small freighters to link the seaports of Boston, Portland, and Halifax, Nova Scotia. The company says it has signed letters of intent to build ten ships for the service and hopes to expand to the entire East Coast and the Gulf of Mexico.
