What Next for Hampden?
In the wake of a heated public hearing over Hampden's updated comprehensive plan, town officials are pondering the next step.
More than 250 people turned out for Tuesday's hearing, angry over ordinances that may arise out the plan that was approved by the town council in October. Some in the audience directed ugly personal comments at town councilors and staff who worked on the plan for three years.
“A lot of people who showed up [Tuesday] were honestly concerned, but there were others who clearly had tea party and anti-government values," Town Councilor Thomas Brann told the Bangor Daily News. "They just want to torpedo what we’ve done without thinking about it. Some of those people don’t want to hear the truth.”
