Naval Ship of the Future Built in Bath

With the ability to shoot warheads from 100 miles away, advanced sonar systems, electric drive propulsion, and a stealth wave-piercing hull, the Zumwalt is being billed as the future of the U.S. Navy. Many in the Navy have tried to stop the production of the ship due to its enormous cost, but construction has begun on this behemoth. Three of these 600-foot-long ships will be built, each at a cost of $3.8 billion. The first ship, the Zumwalt, debuts in 2014, and will play a vital, though undisclosed role in the Obama administration's Asia-Pacific strategy.
