Michaud, Baldacci, Pingree Prep Senate Run
They will have to get 2,000 signatures in two weeks, but Second District U.S Rep. Mike Michaud, 1st District U.S. Rep Chellie Pingree and former governor John Baldacci are planning to enter the race for Senate seat left vacant by Olympia Snowe. None have officially announced, but they have taken out the papers necessary to begin the process of entering the Democratic primary. As the race stands, one of them would be facing Scott D’Amboise of Lisbon Falls in November.
Concurrently, if Pingree or Michaud became the nominee, a Congress seat would open up. Emily Cain of Orono and Debra Plowman of Hampden have started getting the paperwork necessary to fill Michaud’s seat should he win.
