Samoset Chef Vies for Key West Title
Chef Rick Skoglund Jr., sous chef at the Samoset Resort in Rockport, will compete in the Master Chef's Classic, the leading culinary and tasting event of the Lower Keys, on January 29. Skoglund is cooking for the winter season at the Samoset's sister Ocean Properties property, the Westin Resort in Key West. Skoglund is a Le Cordon Bleu North America certified chef and is in Florida. He was previously the executive chef at King Eiders Pub in Damariscotta. Skoglund and his competitors will be judged by the public and a panel of judges. The competition benefits the Monroe Association for ReMARCable Citizens (MARC provides life services for developmentally disabled adults in the Florida Keys). Restaurants compete in appetizer, entrée and dessert categories, providing food for 400 attendees.
