Get Ready for Belt-sander Racing
It's similar to drag racing, except instead of cars, its belt-sanders. Two machines go head-to-head on a straight 75-foot long plywood track and within a few seconds, one is at the finish line and declared a winner. The Penobscot County Chapter of the United Bikes of Maine is putting on a series of such races to raise money to donate to food panties, animal shelters and veterans' groups in the area.
Belt-sanders with custom motors and modified gearing for optimal performance will face-off over the course of several dozen races. A winner will be be decided March 25 at the City Side Restaurant in Brewer. For more information check out the article in the Portland Press Herald.
