What and where is Maine’s largest “erratic”?
An erratic is a boulder that has been moved far from its original location by glacial movement. Daggett Rock in Phillips, is thought to be Maine's largest erratic. It is eighty feet long, thirty feet wide, and twenty-five feet high, and it may weigh as much as eight thousand tons. Local legend says it was broken into three pieces when a lightning bolt struck a drunken logger named Daggett who had climbed atop the rock to curse God.
