In a 1965 world heavyweight title bout between Sonny Liston and Muhammed Ali in Lewiston, Ali knocked out Liston in the first minute of the first round of a scheduled ten-round fight. Suspicious observers tagged the alleged knockout blow the “phantom punch,” since Liston fell to the mat seemingly without being hit.
