Who was James G. Blaine?
Blaine (1830–1893), born in Pennsylvania, moved to Augusta in 1854 and was a three-term Speaker of the House in Washington. D.C. The 1884 Republican presidential nominee, he was narrowly defeated by Grover Cleveland. His house, Blaine Mansion, is now the official residence of the Governor of Maine.
