Why I Love Maine: First Ice of a New Winter
The ice forms on the lake for another winter...
On December morning at 7 a.m. my wife woke me with one of her frequent "Quick-come-look-at-this!" appeals.
The world from our porch is new and different every day, but this time I heard the awe in her voice. Knowing she would persist, I shuffled to the window rubbing my eyes on the way.
The sunrise was turning the snow to peach sherbet as the full moon was setting over Mt. Washington. Fog drifted over the first ice of the season formed during the night. All I could do was stare and thank God for the beauty before me.
