Zielinski to Sign 'Conditions May Vary'
Gregory S. Zielinski will celebrate the publication of his new book about Maine’s famously changeable weather, Conditions May Vary, on Saturday, June 20, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Books ‘n Things, Norway. The book is published by Down East Books.
Zielinski is a former Maine State Climatologist and a former research professor at the University of Maine. He is the author of New England Weather, New England Climate. He has taught courses on climate and meteorology and has written more than 50 articles on the subject. He currently resides in Orono, Maine.
“Conditions may vary" is the phrase you will often hear when you want to know about Maine’s variable weather. With its mountains, rolling hills, flat farm country, and rock-bound coast, the geography of Maine alone is enough to invite a variety of weather conditions. Zielinski proves in Conditions May Vary: A Guide to Maine Weather there’s much more engendering Maine’s weather than that. Jet stream, Gulf Stream, cold Canadian air masses, ocean temperature, and much more contribute to the challenges of predicting Maine weather.
