Down East Names Kathleen Fleury Associate Editor
Down East Enterprise Inc. announces the promotion of Kathleen Fleury from Assistant Editor to Associate Editor for all Down East-branded products, including the book, magazine, and online divisions.
“Kathleen came to Down East in 2007 with a diverse range of publishing experiences — she worked in Manhattan at both the Zachary Shuster Harmsworth literary agency and at Random House’s cooking imprint, Clarkson Potter,” said Paul Doiron, Editor in Chief of the Down East brand.
“Kathleen has now added feature and online journalism to her resume, and she has excelled at both, quickly becoming one of the most knowledgeable food writers in the state. As a Cousins Island native, graduate of Yarmouth High School, and Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Middlebury College, she is also living proof that Maine can lure back its most talented young people if given the right opportunities.”
The beginnings of Down East Enterprise date back to 1954, with the kitchen-table launch of Down East: The Magazine of Maine. Today, Down East is the largest circulation magazine devoted exclusively to Maine, with over 270,000 readers worldwide each month. The book publishing division was started in 1967 and now counts over 775 titles in print and currently publishes 25 new titles per year. In 2008, Down East Books was recognized as “Publisher of the Year” by the New England Independent Book Sellers Association. In 2000, internet publishing became part of the mix, and today Down East has four full-service websites: DownEast.com, MaineVows.com, MaineBoatyard.com, and MaineHomes.com. Located in Rockport, Down East Enterprise also provides custom-publishing and digital production work for outside clients.
