Pies with a Purpose

There’s not much better than a piping-hot seafood pie packed with fresh Maine catch. That’s just what Cobscook Bay Company has created with Maine Fresh seafood pies ($5.99-$7.99, 207-733-2222, www.maine-fresh.com). The frozen pies come in four flavors — shrimp, lobster, crab, and scallop — and after forty minutes in the oven you have a homemade-quality meal for one. The all-natural, local ingredients include fresh vegetables, herbs, dairy products, and, of course, locally caught and sustainable seafood. Fore Street’s James Beard Award-winning chef Sam Hayward helped to develop the recipe with the Trescott-based company, and 25 percent of net profits benefit the Cobscook Community Learning Center as well. The pies are currently available at Hannaford supermarkets across the state.
