"Becoming Teddy Roosevelt" Book of the Year Finalist
ForeWord Reviews is pleased to announce that Andrew Vietze’s critically acclaimed Becoming Teddy Roosevelt: How a Maine Guide Inspired America's 26th President is a finalist for the 2010 Book of the Year Awards in the Biography category. Selected from among more than 1400 entries, the finalists represent the best work of independent publishers across the nation. Winners will be announced at Book Expo America in New York in May.
Becoming Teddy Roosevelt, published by Down East Books, has been deemed “crucial reading for anyone interested in TR” (Big Sky Journal), “highly recommended” (Midwest Book Review), “vivid and dramatic" (Kennebec Journal), and “a joy to read” (Maine Sunday Telegram). The book received a Silver award at the Independent Publisher Book Awards in New York last May, was formally honored by the Maine State Legislature in October, and spent several weeks on the Maine Sunday Telegram bestseller list.
Becoming Teddy Roosevelt explores the formative relationship between the young Theodore Roosevelt and his backcountry mentor, William Wingate Sewall of Island Falls, Maine. The book follows the pair into the woods of Maine, down to New York, and finally out West, where Roosevelt began his ranching venture. During his time with Sewall, TR is transformed from a “thin, pale youngster with bad eyes and a weak heart,” into the kind of man who could lead a country. The former managing editor of Down East magazine, Andrew Vietze lives in Appleton, Maine.
ForeWord Reviews' Book of the Year Awards program was established to help publishers shine an additional spotlight on their best titles and bring increased attention to librarians and booksellers of the literary and graphic achievements of independent publishers and their authors.
