The book follows the pair into the woods of Maine, down to New York, and finally out West, where Roosevelt began his ranching venture. During his time with Sewall, TR is transformed from a “thin, pale youngster with bad eyes and a weak heart,” into the kind of man who could lead a country. The former managing editor of Down East magazine, Andrew Vietze lives in Appleton, Maine.
