ShowHouse2007
The Portland Symphony Orchestra proudly presents Designers' Show House 2007
The Oakley Estate is the Portland Symphony Orchestra's twelfth Designers' ShowHouse. This year's slate of designers promises to amaze and capture your imagination as they turn an early twentieth-century house in need of updating into a fresh, comfortable home with cutting-edge design. The concept behind a ShowHouse is to show visitors different ways a house can take shape: a new concept for a room, different colors used in interesting ways, and a marvelous sense of style. Each of our designers brings a unique talent and viewpoint to this project.
The Oakley Estate has more than six thousand square feet of magnificent living space. It boasts more than fourteen rooms, six baths, and a terrace leading out to the pool. Situated on 4.2 acres, the landscape is a mix of perennials with a gentle slope leading to the water's edge on Mussel Cove. Views to the outside are simply beautiful, and the interior is no less impressive. Enjoy exploring the majestic grand staircase that leads upward to the plush master suite and well-appointed children's room. Downstairs will delight also! An African mahogany study greets you as well as an amazing kitchen.
In addition to touring the house itself, visitors will also have the opportunity to attend special events, such as a cooking demonstration, wine tasting, and a lunch and lecture with etiquette expert Dorothea Johnson. For those who are avid gardeners, the Oakley Estate gardens are being completely redone, and we encourage you to visit them after your tour of the house.
The Oakley Estate's completion date of 1927 makes it very close to the date of the inception of the Portland Symphony Orchestra. Like the orchestra, this home has had a long and warm history in the community. We hope you take the opportunity to come to the ShowHouse and visit this Falmouth Foreside landmark. We look forward to seeing all of you at this extraordinary event. Download Show House 2007
