Ham on Lies

For the September issue of Down East we're working on an article about Lewiston's Somali community six years after the first refugees began settling there. All in all, it's an uplifting story about the challenges and rewards of strangers learning to coexist with each other. But when you speak with people in Lewiston, you also sense an overwhelming desire to lower their city's international profile. It's exhausting for a community to be an on-going news story month after month. This latest episode might just be the capper. Is it any wonder that people in Lewiston are fed up with the media if every middle-school prank can be used as ammunition to slander their city yet again?
