Bob Rioux was always good at geometry. He liked angles. And it stuck. For the past thirty years, Rioux has transformed his love of angles into original, handcrafted kaleidoscopes that he cuts and solders in his salt marsh studio in Kennebunkport.
His series on the four seasons features two-mirrored kaleidoscopes - one for each season - with a third side containing a watercolor landscape. Winter, $310, has a white background with bare, brown trees and bark. All the colors in the object chamber are cold colors - crystals and blues.
You look through the opening and see the watercolor reflected all around, Rioux remarks.
Rioux, whose studio is the Sea Parrot, has won numerous national awards for his work.
