[1]50 Shades of Grey is proving to be a paper bound economic stimulus package not just for Barnes & Noble (e-books sales are up 46 percent thanks to the novel) but also for the state of Maine. Great Northern Paper (GNP), in East Millinocket, which reopened just 12 months ago after being shut down in 2008 following 109 years in operation, was asked to produce 3,000 tons of paper for the steamy novel. To keep up with demand GNP hired an additional 37 workers, which is roughly 2 percent of the town’s population of 1,800 people. We know the book is supposed to be stimulating, but we had no idea just how much.
