Stonington, ME. The gWatson Gallery is presenting mezzo soprano Kimberly Oppelt in a recital on Friday, June 15 at 7:30 PM. Originally from Rochester, NY, Oppelt graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a degree in vocal performance. She recently performed with Portsmouth Pro Musica, singing the mezzo solos in John Rutter’s, Feel the Spirit. She has performed with Opera Saratoga, Metro West Opera, Granite State Opera, Opera New Hampshire, Lakes Region Opera, and New Hampshire Youth Opera. She has also performed in schools throughout New Hampshire as a participant in Opera New Hampshire’s educational outreach program and in schools in upstate New York with Opera Saratoga. This fall Oppelt will be joining the chorus of the Boston Lyric Opera. She gives frequent recitals and teaches private lessons in Exeter, NH. Currently, she studies with soprano Jane Olian in New York City.
At the gWatson Gallery, Oppelt will sing songs of Henry Purcell, John Harbison, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Rogers and Hammerstein, Gabriel Faure and Franz Schubert. She will be accompanied by pianist Michael Effenberger. This is a return engagement for Ms. Oppelt, who performed to much acclaim at the Gallery in 2010 and 2011.
