How much light is too much when it comes to whitewashing the night sky with commercial outdoor lighting? That’s the question lawmakers have resolved to answer in passing HP6 LD1, a resolution to preserve dark skies by limiting the glow cast by overhead lighting. Lawmakers fell short of setting commercial lighting standards and have instead given the task to the State Planning Office, which has until January 2010 to make recommendations to limit light pollution. The SPO will deliver its recommendations to the Joint Standing Committee on Business, Research and Economic Development.
