Maine has been blessed with one of the more mild Novembers in recent memory, but we all know that can change, literally, overnight. Last year's record-high oil prices saw demand for firewood skyrocket, but as the price of No. 2 heating oil has dropped the supply of cordwood has increased. Dealers are cutting deals quicker than the pines in their woodlots, with a cord selling for $189 in the Bangor area. If you haven't done it already, now is the time to stack a cord or two out to dry — you'll appreciate it when a February blizzard is roaring outside your door.
