More than forty people wearing headlamps or carrying flashlights fanned out over Middle Ridge Road in Bridgton Friday night to look for amphibians making their way to vernal pools from their wintering homes in the woods. The Big Night Road Watch, as it is called by Lakes Environmental Association, is held on the night when conditions are right for the annual mating migration to begin. "They're on a mission, and the road is in their way," Bridie McGreavy, LEA's conservation and education director told the Lakes Region Weekly [1]. "Our goal is to help them cross the road, so they can be on their merry way."
