Thinking of moving? Consider Bangor and Portland. Both cities are on Recloate America's latest Top 100 Places to Live list.
"Bangor combines traditional New England charm with a very modern sensibility; an enriching balance that gives Bangor a unique quality of life," according to Relocate America, an Internet directory of more than 6,000 community profiles. "The combination of opportunity, affordability and urban amenities continually attracts professionals and businesses to the Bangor area."
The Website cites Bangor's proximity to metropolitan markets like Montreal, Boston and New York and to Acadia National Park, Mt. Katahdin, Moosehead Lake and Baxter State Park. Bangor also has low crime rate and a vibrant nightlife, Relocate America says.
Of Portland, Maine's largest city and its business, financial and retail capital, Relocate America notes, "Seascapes and cityscapes blend harmoniously in Portland, perched on a peninsula, jutting out into island-studded Casco Bay. The metropolitan hub of Maine's south coast region, Portland is a progressive, lively city incorporating the character of yesteryear into a modern urban environment. Historic architecture blends gracefully with the new as you stroll along her working waterfront or the cobblestone streets of the restored Old Port section of the city."
