On July 20, 1903, Edward Page Mitchell was promoted to editor-in-chief of the New York Sun a leading paper of its time, and the newspaper that published the famous 1897 editorial Is There a Santa Claus? [1]. His most interesting accomplishments were ground breaking science fiction stories about subjects from time travel to cyborgs to faster-than-light travel. His stories may have inspired more famous later authors like H.G Wells who wrote on similar subjects. Mitchell's first published writing, at the age of 14, was a series of letters that he sent to The Bath Times, his former home town paper.
