Wiscasset is one of twenty towns - and the only one in New England - included in an online contest to name America's Coolest Small Towns.
Budget Travel reports it received eighty nominations, which it then whittled to twenty, including Wiscasset. Visitor's to Budget Travel's Website are invited to cast their vote and defend their choice in a comments section.
Budget Travel mentions Wiscasset's 18th-century village and abundance of antiques dealers, adding, "The town's main attraction, though, is Red's Eats, a rickety hut on the water that serves up lobster rolls stuffed with a pound of fresh meat." (Had the folks at Budget Travel consulted Down East Book's Red's Eats: World's Best Lobster Shack, they'd know that's not quite correct: a Red's lobster roll contains roughly the same amount of meat that can be extracted from a one-pound lobster, not one pound of meat.)
