| Company officials at the Hinckley Company on Mount Desert Island announced Tuesday that the company has been sold but declined to give further details. Founded in 1928, the company produced sailing yachts and high-tech power boats that commanded top dollar from discerning skippers. Hinckley expanded its operations outside of Maine in the past few decades, though the recent economic recession hit the company hard and led to layoffs in Maine and elsewhere.
