Daisuke Matsuzaka, aka Dice-K, will sport a Sea Dogs hat on Saturday as he takes the mound at Hadlock Field, hoping to prove he is ready to once again join the Red Sox. He has not pitched since undergoing Tommy John surgery last June, and had been struggling prior to his injury.
He was part of the starting rotation that got the Red Sox a title in 2007, and he went an impressive 18-3 in 2008. Since then he hasn't lived up to his $103 million price tag. $51 million went to his former Japanese team and $52 to Dice-K as part of a six year contract that expires at the end of the 2012 season.
In addition to Dice-K, Yankee pitcher Andy Petitte may make a start in Portland on Monday if he stays in Double-A for another game.
