Spotlight
Harvest Wines
To whet your palate for the exceptional wines featured at this year’s Harvest, we have asked our wine sponsors, Constellation Brands (Simply Naked) and USA Wine West (Big Claw), to tell us about their unique varietals: Simply Naked
Why feature Simply Naked at this year’s Harvest on the Harbor?
Simply Naked is the ideal tasting wine largely because of the unique method we use to create it: our varietals are unoaked and fermented and aged in 100 percent stainless steel, resulting in wines that are fruit forward, clean, and well structured.
How would you recommend Simply Naked’s wines be served?
Whether it is Simply Naked’s Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Grigio, or Merlot, all our wines showcase the true expression of each grape, allowing the consumer an authentic impression of each variety when sipped alone and a versatile complement when paired with meals.
Where can people find Simply Naked?
Fortunately for Harvest on the Harbor’s national following, Simply Naked can be found in supermarkets and wine stores all over the country.
Big ClawBig Claw hails from California: how does a wine from the West Coast fit with lobster, typically recognized as a New England delicacy?
When perfecting our blends, we bring in sommeliers, wine buyers, and members of the fishing community to help us decide the perfect complement to the succulent sweet and salty taste of lobster. For instance, our 2009 vintage, which will be served at this year’s Harvest, highlights the dry effervescence of Grenache and Sauvignon Blanc with a hint of Gewurztraminer or light spice that cuts through heavier butter typically used in crustacean cuisine.
Are there other ways in which you support the lobster/fishing community?
Big Claw Wine donates two dollars of every case to the Lobster Institute at the University of Maine in Orono; an institute that is dedicated to the sustainability of the lobster industry. We are delighted to be a part of this event as we feel both the quality of our wine and our mission to support one of Maine’s most viable industries complements the mission of Harvest
on the Harbor.
Where can people find Big Claw?
In addition to being featured at this year’s Lobster Chef of the Year Competition, Big Claw can also be found at the nearby DiMillo’s on the Water and leading lobster shacks throughout Maine. We are also available in grocery stores throughout the East Coast.
